Probiotics for Chickens
With Big Ole Bird added to your flock's drinking water, your birds will maintain better health and performance.
Ready-to-Use Liquid Probiotics for Chickens
Imagine birds that are less susceptible to disease. Birds that maintain healthy weights. Birds that increase the success of your farm. You can achieve all of this with one cost-effective solution: Big Ole Bird.
Packed with poultry probiotics, organic acids and biologically active carbon, Big Ole Bird strengthens your birds’ natural defense system from within. Scientifically proven to improve overall poultry health, these flock-changing ingredients work together to increase performance.
Big Ole Bird vs. Other Probiotics
While there are other chicken probiotics on the market that also offer beneficial microorganisms aimed at improving gut microflora, Big Ole Bird takes this technology to the next level by introducing rich organic acids in the form of humic and fulvic acids.
Humic Acid
Scientific studies show that humic acid provides a number of beneficial effects when added to the diet of poultry, including:
- Healthier weights
- Improved egg quality and quantity
- Decreased mortality
- Improved resistance to pathogens and disease
Beneficial Microbes
Our microbes are mostly Bacillus species, which are heartier than other poultry probiotics that only feature Lactobacillus acidophilus and other lactic acid-focused species. Poultry production and poultry performance are greatly increased by live microorganisms.
Our products are specially formulated with live bacteria in a vegetative form that prove a positive influence on gut health and gut integrity.
Organic Acids
Most people in commercial poultry production think of a mere acidification of water when they hear “organic acids.” While organic acids do provide some acidifying effects, they also provide additional benefits to keep your flock healthy.
Fulvic acid is "wetter than water" and serves as a destroyer of biofilms. Our acids destroy the protective layer produced by the disease-causing organisms. This mechanism assists the birds’ natural barrier function for improved immune response.
Active Carbon
The carbon baseline for our products binds harmful compounds and boosts gut integrity. This is similar The carbon baseline for our products binds harmful compounds and boosts gut integrity. This is similar to charcoal, which has been used for thousands of years to improve drinking water and for general detoxification purposes.
Activated carbon is a deeper level as it adsorbs longer chain hydrogen rich molecules. The activated carbon in Big Ole Bird has shown to adsorb benzenes, chelate nutrients and bind metals. The
What makes Big Ole Bird a probiotic?
Here’s a look at some of the indigenous beneficial bacteria (probiotics) and what they do:
Bacillus mojavensis
This biosurfactant reduces the interfacial tension between hydrocarbons and aqueous. It oxidizes sulfide and nitrate, helps optimize gut health and improves digestion in the intestinal tract.
Bacillus subtilis
This is one of the poultry powerhouses in bacteria. It eliminates harmful bacterial through competitive exclusion and improves feed conversion and growth promotion by optimizing intestinal health in the chicken's digestive tract.
Nitrobacillus georgiensis
This bacteria nitrifies ammonia and produces a biosurfactant. It enhances the emulsification of hydrocarbons and increases their availability for microbial degradation. This is a probiotic bacteria that is completely unique to Big Ole Bird and will not be found in other probiotics for chickens.
Bacillus sp.
This has a strong production of a biosurfactant, which helps with feed intake in the gastrointestinal tract.
Paenebacillus polymyxa
This is one of many beneficial microorganisms that reduces nitrate and produces a biosurfactant for improved digestive health and improved mucus secretion.
Bacillus megaterium
This strain provides enzymes for feather degradation, processing waste, and processing phosphates. It's a beneficial microbiota that also "tightens the gut" as it amplifies nutrient digestion for better feed conversion ratio.
Bacillus amyloliquefaciens
A bacteria that breaks down starch into sugars (fermented foods) and breaks down short chain fatty acids.
Bacillus pumilus
This can sustain aerobic and anaerobic growth with a strong biosurfactant production that is thought to increase immune response. It's also a sulfur oxidizer and starch degrader.
Benefits of Big Ole Bird
Improves Feed Conversion and Weight Gain
With Big Ole Bird, your birds get the most out of their chicken feed. It helps your birds absorb nutrients more efficiently, which results in better overall nutrition and infection prevention. You'll see a better feed conversion ratio and—like the name suggests—bigger birds.
Helps Fight Disease
Big Ole Bird improves the immune system by helping red blood cells carry more oxygen, improving the absorption of minerals, removing of toxic metals and improving the accuracy of cell division.
Improves Gut Health
Formulated with live bacteria in a vegetative form, Big Ole Bird improves gut health. It increases good bacteria in the gut and helps suppress bad bacteria. For an extra boost of gut health support, Mother Load tightens the gut with apple cider vinegar, helps digest food and aids in the health of a chicken's digestive tract.
For both broilers and laying hens, homemade probiotics, vinegar and fruit scraps have long been touted for their benefits to overall poultry health. But the time it takes to ferment apple cider vinegar and gather food scraps is just not feasible for farmers. Instead, commercial poultry growers can use simple water additives like Big Ole Bird and Mother Load to get the same benefits without risking the bottom line.
Decreases Mortality
With all the health benefits of Big Ole Bird, your birds are less susceptible to disease and thus live longer.
Provides Odor Control
Giving humic and fulvic acids to your birds can decrease ammonia in their waste. Since it's rich in humic and fulvic acids, you'll notice a decrease in waste odor when you give Big Ole Bird to your birds.
Controls Algae
As an added benefit, Big Ole Bird also controls the growth of algae and harmful bacteria in your houses' drinker lines, keeping them clean and sanitary. Algae won't grow in the presence of Big Ole Bird. That means cleaning out your trough due to algae accumulation will be a thing of the past!
Scientific Studies
With the 2017 onset of no antibiotics ever (NAE) production, broiler farmers and integrators have struggled with pathogenic bacteria disease pressures with few options for relief. Big Ole Bird has shown to increase performance consistently in commercial broiler farms across the United States, but we wanted to put the probiotic strains to the test through third-party scientific trials to uncover the true impact. 2016 Study: Necrotic Enteritis and Big Ole Bird
The first study tested male Cobb-Vantress chickens that were challenged with necrotic enteritis caused by Clostridium perfringens. The experimental group that was challenged and given Big Ole Bird showed a significantly better feed conversion and lower mortality than challenged birds that didn’t receive Big Ole Bird in their water.
The results showed the following significant improvements from adding probiotics versus those who did not get treated with Big Ole Bird:
- Feed conversion ratio improvement of 16 points
- Mortality improvement of 6.2%
2018 Study: Weight Improvement with Big Ole Bird
The second study tested two groups of 50 male Ross 708 birds, one of which has Big Ole Bird in their water and the other of which was a control group. At day 38, weights were significantly larger in the group treated with Big Ole Bird and feed conversion was improved, as seen below.
- Average weight gain improvement of 0.4 lb
- Feed conversion ratio improvement of 7 points
With the absence of antibiotics and the ever-present challenges of environmental conditions, harmful bacteria and disease, Big Ole Bird is scientifically proven to be a valid performance product.
